Food and Water Bowl Recommendations

Food Bowls -
When selecting a food bowl, you will want to get a glass, ceramic or stainless steel bowl. Plastic bowls will harbor harmful bacteria and can cause acne breakouts on your kitten's face!

Water Fountain -

I highly recommend getting a water fountain as it helps encourage a cat to drink, and drink often versus a stagnant bowl of water. Cats naturally have a low thirst drive so its critical to encourage good drinking habits. This is a fountain I use in the cattery and like as It holds quite a bit of volume and keeps pretty clean. There are a lot of great ones out there though!

Cat Tree Recommendations

Personally, my favorite brand for cat tree's is Frisco. Frisco's are built to last and are extremely solid and well-built. I recommend ordering a cat stand through Chewy as they are far cheaper than going to a pet store. You will probably want to stay away from white cat stands and opt for a grey or brown color. The white can stain if you have a sweaty kitten sleeping on it often! Make sure whatever stand you order has scratching posts so your kitten has an appropriate place to do so.

Additionally, I highly recommend getting a cardboard scratcher as well so they have both vertical and horizontal scratching options.

Litter Box Recommendations

The Litter Box rule:
1 + 1 for each cat. So for one cat, you should have two litter boxes, for two cats you should have three litter boxes, etc..

For single cat homes, my favorite litter boxes are the top entry! This helps keep more of the litter inside the box instead of on your floor!
Top Entry Litter Box

For families with multiple cats or dogs, I recommend using an open litter box. The reason behind this is, you don't ever want your kitten to be cornered in a litter box without an escape route, as this could result in litter box fear. I personally like the high-sided corner litter boxes as it again keeps more litter inside the box.

However, If you're looking to splurge, I cannot recommend the Litter-Robot enough! While expensive, it takes away the need for you to ever have to scoop litter again and always gives your babies a clean bed of litter to use!

Cat Litter Recommendations

Early on, kittens use Pine Litter. We get ours from tractor supply (40lb bag for $6.29). This litter does not irritate the respiratory system the way other litters do.  When they urinate on it, it turns to sawdust. You’ll change the litter box more frequently, but the price makes it affordable to do so and you won't have a dirty litterbox smelling up your house!

Pine Pellet's

Once they hit 8 weeks, we also use Tidy Cats Free and Clean. Out of all the clumping litters, I have found this one to be extremely low in dust which is ideal for your babies respiratory health, clumps tightly, and controls litter box odors well.

Another alternative that does well with smell control is Crystals but this can be a pricier litter (30lb bag for $39.99 at Petco).

Crystal's Cat Litter

If you stick with the pine or a clumping litter (without a Litter-Robot), this is an absolute MUST have product, it will make your life so much easier.  It is pricey and you could probably make something similar for less but seriously so amazing and makes litter box cleaning so much easier than fishing for poos!

Grooming Recommendations

Each kitten goes home with a complete grooming kit, that should last you several months.

When it comes time to reorder though, here are  the products we use:

Shampoo and Conditioner  and Ear Cleaner

***Please do not use coconut oil or Etsy products on your baby. Coconut oil will clog your kitten's pores and the products made on Etsy marketed towards are hairless babies are just that, great marketing! They have absolutely no testing done on them, meaning we don't even know if they're safe for our animals. They are made in people's kitchen sinks, and there is no guarantee for consistency between batches...)
